Local Tradition Meets Conservation : Bhai-Juintia Festival Inspires Enviromental Care

-

In a heartwarming blend of local tradition and environmental conservation, the Bhai-Juintia festival in Nuapada District took on a unique significance this year. Traditionally, Bhai-Juintia is celebrated with sisters tying a Juintia, a symbolic thread like Rakhi, to their brothers, praying for their well-being and future success. This year, over 300 sisters extended the tradition to nature, tying Juintia to seedlings in the Makhabhatapada plantation of Khariar Forest Division.

In this symbolic gesture, the sisters pledged to protect the saplings as a symbol of their bond with nature, echoing their prayers for a green and prosperous future. The plantation drive serves not only as an environmental step but as a cultural reminder of the deep connections between communities and their environment.

This innovative approach to Bhai-Juintia shows how local traditions can support conservation efforts, encouraging more such initiatives that foster a sense of shared responsibility toward nature. The Khariar Forest Division deserves recognition for organizing this eco-friendly celebration that beautifully merges culture with conservation.
