Joint Operation Seizes Two Leopard Skins In Purola Uttarakhand

In a significant breakthrough in the fight against wildlife crime, the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) and the Uttarakhand Police Department conducted a successful joint operation on 8th October 2024, seizing two leopard skins in Purola, Uttarakhand. This seizure was based on crucial intelligence inputs from WCCB, reflecting the ongoing commitment of authorities to curb illegal wildlife trade.

Leopards, listed as a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, face constant threats due to poaching and habitat loss. The sale and possession of leopard skins are illegal and punishable by law. This joint operation marks a vital step toward safeguarding these majestic creatures, whose survival is key to maintaining the ecological balance and biodiversity of India.

This operation underscores the persistent efforts to crack down on wildlife trafficking, sending a strong message to illegal traders. Public awareness and cooperation with authorities are essential to ensure such criminal activities are brought to an end.

Let’s continue to support wildlife conservation and uphold the protection of our endangered species.
