Countering the traditional perception of tigers as fearsome predators, a group of tribal artists from tiger reserve regions is set to showcase the majestic “Baghdev” (Tiger God) as a symbol of creative inspiration and harmonious co-existence. These 15 talented artists, including 12 who live within tiger reserve ecosystems, will participate in the prestigious ‘Artists-In-Residence’ programme at Rashtrapati Bhawan, starting this Monday.
Hailing from areas around Jim Corbett National Park (Uttarakhand), Kanha and Satpura (Madhya Pradesh), Nawegaon Nagzira and Melghat (Maharashtra), Indravati National Park (Chhattisgarh), Similipal (Odisha), Kawal Tiger Reserve (Telangana), and Dampa (Mizoram), these artists are set to use their artwork to promote the message of conservation and co-existence, highlighting that sustainable development is rooted in living in harmony with nature.
Their unique creations, drawing from their cultural reverence of the tiger as “Baghdev,” will be presented to President Droupadi Murmu on October 29th, delivering a powerful narrative of art, nature, and conservation. This initiative aims to inspire communities and policymakers alike to view wildlife not as a threat, but as a part of a shared existence.
