ANI की रिपोर्ट्स के अनुसार, तमिलनाडु के Thoothukudi जिले के वन विभाग ने मैंग्रोव (दलदली) जंगलों का विस्तार करने और खराब हो चुके तटीय इलाकों को उनकी प्राकृतिक स्थिति में वापस लाने के प्रयास तेज़ कर दिए हैं।

जिले में मैंग्रोव तटरेखा के लिए एक प्राकृतिक सुरक्षा कवच का काम करते हैं, जो समुदायों, आजीविका और बुनियादी ढांचे को चक्रवातों, तूफानी लहरों और तटीय कटाव से बचाते हैं। नदियों के मुहानों, मुहानों और तटीय इलाकों में फैले ये इकोसिस्टम जैव विविधता संरक्षण, जलवायु लचीलापन और स्थानीय मछली पालन पर आधारित अर्थव्यवस्थाओं के लिए बहुत ज़रूरी हैं।
