The Telangana Forest Department has submitted a significant proposal to the state government, aiming to designate the Kawal Tiger Corridor as a conservation reserve. This corridor, situated in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, will link Tadoba in Maharashtra to the Kawal Tiger Reserve, fortifying protections for tigers and enhancing wildlife conservation efforts in the region.
Expected to be approved in the coming weeks, the new conservation reserve status will encompass the Bejjur area, known for its vulture habitats, which will also benefit from increased protection measures. The proposal outlines a 1,422 sq km area across Asifabad and Kagaznagar divisions, where stringent regulations will apply. Entry will require authorization from the chief wildlife warden, and activities that might harm the habitat will be restricted.
