Pygmy Hog conversation success in Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve

In a significant achievement for wildlife conservation, the Pygmy Hog Conservation Programme released 59 captive-bred pygmy hogs into Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve, Assam, between 2011 and 2015. The released population has successfully established itself, with the current estimated population now standing at around 150 individuals.

This success highlights the effectiveness of captive breeding and reintroduction efforts for this critically endangered species, the smallest wild pig in the world. Orang NP&TR, located in Mangaldoi Wildlife Division, has proven to be a safe haven for the revival of this rare species.
