Forest Department Collects ₹94 Lakh from Illegal Mining in Paonta Sahib

The Forest Department in Paonta Sahib has taken significant action against illegal mining activities over the past year, imposing fines totaling ₹94 lakh on offenders. In November alone, the department collected ₹6.83 lakh in penalties, setting a new benchmark for enforcement.

Since January 2023, the Forest Department has registered 516 cases of illegal mining, including violations involving excavators, trucks, and tippers. Out of these, 40 cases were related to vehicles used in illegal transportation, with penalties amounting to ₹8.84 lakh. In addition, 262 cases of illegal mining have been registered this year, along with several instances of illicit alcohol production linked to mining activities.

DFO Rajesh Raj emphasized the department’s zero-tolerance approach, warning that strict action will continue against offenders. The Forest Department also seized 3,250 liters of illicit liquor during their operations, showcasing their dedication to tackling multiple forms of illegality linked to mining.

This crackdown highlights the department’s relentless efforts to curb illegal activities and protect natural resources in Paonta Sahib.
