Director of WII Presents on Natural Heritage and Ganga Rejuvenation at World Heritage Young Professionals Forum 2024

Dr. V. R. Tiwari, Director of the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), delivered a compelling presentation on “Natural Heritage, Climate Change, and Ganga Rejuvenation” at the World Heritage Young Professionals Forum 2024. The event, held at the historic Red Fort, captivated an audience of 50 participants from 25 countries, focusing on India’s rich natural heritage and the ongoing efforts to combat climate change and rejuvenate the Ganga River. 

In his presentation, Dr. Tiwari highlighted the significant challenges posed by climate change to India’s natural heritage. He elaborated on the initiatives undertaken by WII, particularly the WII Climate Change and Conservation (WII-C2C) program, which addresses the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and ecosystems. Additionally, he discussed the collaborative efforts with the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) under the Clean Ganga project, emphasizing the importance of restoring the health and flow of the Ganga River. 

The forum provided an international platform for young professionals to engage in discussions about heritage conservation and climate action. Dr. Tiwari’s insights drew attention to the urgent need for integrated approaches to manage natural heritage and mitigate the effects of climate change. His talk underscored the importance of collaborative efforts at local, national, and global levels to ensure the sustainability of vital ecosystems and cultural landmarks.
