Chhattisgarh loses another tiger, forest department investigates cause of death

-

Raipur | Correspondent: In a concerning development for Chhattisgarh’s wildlife, another tiger has been found dead, raising questions about the effectiveness of forest monitoring efforts. Forest officials reported discovering the tiger’s carcass near a river in the Devseel Katwar area of Korea district.

Although officials are yet to determine the cause of death, they had previously claimed to be closely monitoring the tiger’s movements. The presence of this tiger had been observed in the Korea forest division since October 16, with ongoing sightings in the Korea and Baikunthpur areas.

Local villagers in areas like Chamad Pahad, Jam Ghat, Lota Pani, Temri, and Katkona had also reported tiger sightings. The tiger had preyed on a buffalo belonging to Mahendra Yadav of Sorga village in the forests of Patna’s Temri area, later injuring two more buffaloes owned by Rajaram Yadav and Santosh Yadav in Tendua village.

Despite the Forest Department’s efforts to monitor the tiger through camera traps, the tragic outcome has raised concerns over the department’s vigilance and effectiveness in managing wildlife safety.
