Capacity building course on UNESCO World Heritage Sites begins at WII

A one-week course on ‘Capacity-Building for Declaration of UNESCO World Heritage Sites’ commenced at the Wildlife Institute of India, with participation from IFS officers representing six states.
The inaugural session was graced by the Director, Dean, and Registrar of WII India, who emphasized the importance of leveraging the course’s multi-disciplinary approach to better understand and manage heritage conservation. This initiative is a vital step towards enhancing the nomination and management processes of natural and cultural sites for UNESCO World Heritage status.
Supported by agencies like UNESCO, ICCROM, IUCN, and ICOMOS, the course focuses on equipping officers with the knowledge and tools to champion heritage conservation in the Asia-Pacific region.
