An ant’s strength can lift twenty times its own weight. They establish sizable colonies, each containing a queen and workers. They tend to aphids, cultivate fungus, and communicate via pheromones. Queens have a 30-year lifespan. Everywhere save Antarctica is home to more than 12,000 species. Ants are able to construct living buildings, repair their nests, travel in relation to the light, and flourish in a variety of habitats.
