Pupun Sahu : A Humble Carpenter Turns Barren Land into Havens in Odisha

๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ต, ๐—ข๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ฎ โ€“ In a remarkable tale of dedication and perseverance, Pupun Sahu, a humble carpenter from Odishaโ€™s Nayagarh district, has spent the past decade transforming barren, rugged lands into lush green spaces. Since 2014, Pupun has tirelessly planted a variety of trees including mango, sugarcane, and bamboo on challenging slopes, all while personally ensuring their survival by transporting water from the Kusumi River.

Despite the harsh conditions and many obstacles, Pupunโ€™s passion for nature drove him to continue expanding his green mission. His efforts did not stop at tree planting; Pupun revitalized the area surrounding the Mahima Alekha Ashram, planting nearly 400 medicinal and fruit-bearing trees, making it a thriving educational resource for local students.

His contributions to biodiversity include nurturing species like mulberry, cinnamon, cloves, amla, and saffron, fostering a diverse ecosystem that now attracts a wide array of flora and fauna. These green pockets are not only helping in ecological restoration but also offering invaluable knowledge to the community on sustainable agriculture and conservation.

Even in the face of heartbreaking setbacks like the devastating forest fire that claimed over 100 of his trees, Pupun remained undeterred. His unwavering commitment continues as he tends to new saplings, ensuring the creation of a sustainable environment for future generations.

Pupunโ€™s journey is a powerful reminder of how one individualโ€™s determination can make a significant impact on the environment. His work has turned barren lands into thriving green havens, contributing to the local ecosystem and offering hope for a greener tomorrow.
